LEE LUCAS EARNS
COOKING MERIT BADGE

Lee Lucas, 1967, Denver's Troop 83

In this photo, Lee was working on his cooking merit badge on a camping trip in Pike National Forest.

"
During those days, (to complete the merit badge) we had to cook for the scoutmaster and four others. I think I made stew for dinner and I was in the process of cleaning stuff up," said Lee.

"All our cooking was done over the campfire," said Lee. "We didn’t have Coleman stoves or anything like that."

Lee went on to say that he earned the merit badge and made it to Life Scout. He added that he regrets not getting his Eagle because he only had about 4 merit badges left to complete.

The above photo was taken by his scoutmaster, who used to take many photographs on outings. Notice the Army Surplus pup tents in this photo. The tents are made out of green canvas, the same type of material used at Boy Scout camp.

Although Troop 83 is not around anymore, Lee said their claim to fame was that one of the boys from the troop - in the 30s or 40s - came up with the name "Tahosa" for Denver Area Council's Camp Tahosa in Boulder County.

Thank you, Lee, for sharing this with us! That merit badge sure paid off and you have delighted many taste buds in Troop 358!
